<![CDATA[Awesome breakthrough news for Azolla]]>Fri, 27 Jun 2014 04:16:26 GMT/blog/awesome-breakthrough-news-for-azollaWow! – We have great NEWS to share!

We are THRILLED to announce that the Azolla Genome Project has found its ultimate advocate! The world’s premier genome sequencing center––Beijing Genomics Institute (BGI) in Shenzhen, China––has generously offered to partner with us to fully sequence the Azolla genome, as well as the genomes of all the symbiotic bacteria associated with Azolla.

We could not have created such media press and excitement about this project without the help of our 80+ crowdfunding backers, and for that we are very, very grateful.

Because we surpassed our original goal (we are now at $20,224), we will continue to raise money on experiment.com (in the form of a stretch-goal), with our new goal set at $22,000 for the same end date of July 11, 2014. If we reach this new goal, we will be able to perform optical mapping, a cutting-edge technology that will greatly enhance the final quality of our draft genomes. This will allow us to better characterize the molecular machinery underlying this unique symbiotic partnership.

We hope you are as pleased as we are about this exciting new partnership! You – BGI – and us!

Please stay tuned for more updates!

With very best wishes,
